| I
am a music lover. To me music is more than entertainment,
it is even moret han an art form. Music like nature is a food for
the soul. If I am feeling down, music can lift my spirit; when boredom
strikes, music will get me excited about life again; and on those
grand occaisions when I have been in love, music has encouraged
me to repect and expressthe fullness of my emotions. If that all
sounds a bit like magic, well - music is magical! The luckiest people
are those who are quite capable of falling under ist spell!
That's
exactly what happened to me when I first heard "Like a Breeze"
I fell under ist delightful spell. This is a truly superior collection
of instrumental modern-pop masterpieces. Typically a worthwhile
music purchase means buying a CD that has at least three or four
cuts that are really exceptional. As I believe you will discover,
Like a breeze is all gold, all 22 selections compiled from the German
BRILLIANT-MUSIK vaults are winners. The company was established
in 1964 by the composers Werner Tautz and Heinz Kiessling, and the
publisher Hans Gerig. Their label specialised in the production
and distribution of instrumental light music (Easy Listening, Mood
Music, String Orchestras, Big Bands and Combos) for use in Radio,
television, film and advertising.
Syd
Dale sets a typical BRILLIANT-MUSIK mood with "The Winslow
Boy", a bright and energetic splash of sunshine and youthful
enthusiasm, and Mr Dales bracing tone of "live life to the
fullest" is maintained by everyorchestra and every performance,
which follows. The cuts on this disc are typical of the best instrumental
music of the 60`s and 70`s. The Big Band Sound of the 30`s and 40`s
didn`t die, it rather temporarily withdrew into a cocoon in order
that it may emerge again in the guise of "Easy Listening".
Great band-leaders like Artie Shaw and Glenn Miller drew their insperation
from the urban enviroment as manifest in the time between the two
World Wars. Their signature style, called Swing, acknowledged Dixieland
and Jazz, but was smother and possessed of a more expansivesound.
The international musicians of the LIKE A BREEZE anthology slid
American Swing into the futureby using pop-cultural elements of
their time.
Pieces such as "Jumbo Jet","The Days with Jane","Roadrunner"
and "Poppy" harbour in their
structure references to such diverse elements as Rock-and-Roll,
the Bossa Nova , modern European Club-Jazz and probably the most
importantly , Film Music. Just as with any fine film score, the
impressionistic LIKE A BREEZE themes generate images and sensations
in a listener`s mind. This vivid music wouldn`t exist if not for
John Barry, Roy Budd, Jerry Goldsmith, Burt Bacharach, Ennio Morricone,
Neslon Riddle, Armando Trovaioli, Lalo Schifrin and many others.
Thes artists had to invent music appropriate for the many thrills
and love scenes enjoyed by the top fictional characters of the space
age, cool guys with names like James Bond, Derek Flint, Perry Rhodan,
Diabolik, Batmann and Jerry Cotton. I`m sure many like myself will
listen to the LIKE A BREEZE arrangements and suddenly find themselves
imagining an invigorating sea-side drive in a sleek fast sports
car (like Diabolik) or perhaps whisking off to romance and intrigue
in some exotic locale (like
Bond).
Indicative
of the heavy talent employed by BRILLIANT-MUSIK, our 22 "Groove
Classics" offer a stimulating range of imaginative experiences.
Even though the overall climate here promotes a kind of high-tech
la dolce vita for the modern man, a number of cuts move into more
complex territory. Johnny Pearsons "Always the Good Times"
has a slight edge to it, as if the composition is touching upon
some of the dangersof night life in the Metropolis. "Am bassadeur"
by the Heinz Kiessling Orchestra, paints a picture of high powered
dealings within the marbled halls of government, and this is certainly
in keeping with the track title. So quickly pop this brilliant (pun
intended) gathering of orchestral gems into your player - nothing
but fun and adventure await you!
